Berlin, Germany

In just over a dozen years, Berlin has transformed itself from a divided city into a world-class destination.  Today it boasts top-notch tourist attractions, incredible shopping and charming sidewalk restaurants and cafes.

Our week in Berlin has taken us all over the city, from the Tiergarten to the Reichstag to Checkpoint Charlie and into former East Berlin.  Along the way we marveled at the open-air design of the Berlin Zoo, stood dumbfounded at the selection of chocolates and other irresistible treats at KaDaWe (Berlin's equivalent of London's Herrod's) and were moved by the tragedy documented at the Holocaust Museum.

Berlin is a city that now is equipped to satisfy and delight the savviest and most demanding traveler.  We've already made plans to include it on our list of tours for 2008.  Doug, who last visited Berlin in 2000 during its construction boom, has delightedly added it to his list of favorite ten cities.
