Simbambili Lodge, Sabi Sands, South Africa
We're on safari today at amazing Simbambili Lodge in eastern South Africa. This morning we had a fantastic drive: we watched a beautiful young leopard drag an impala up a tree; a huge bull elephant, who tested our tracker Lucky's courage by waggling his trunk a foot from his face; and a quintet of male lions sizing up a nearby buffalo for dinner. It's hard to believe how close one can get to the animals here...One of the lions brushed against our Land Rover as he walked by, missing Lucky's foot by only four or five inces. We all held our breath until teh 450-lb cat majestically strode past the vehicle.
