Takanaka Beach, Mahe Island, Seychelles

The Seychelles is a collection of 115 islands in the Indian Ocean about a three-hour flight east of Kenya. Our friend Gary had asked us to arrange for him a lovely villa on the main island of Mahe for two weeks, but then couldn't use it... and he graciously allowed us to do so (otherwise it would have just been a loss).

The four-bedroom villa is much larger than we need. It offers sweeping views of the turquoise and opalescent waters of Takamaka Bay.  The villa is located on the slopes of a lush, green mountain and is fully staffed with wonderful people determined to impress us with their hospitality.
 
The slow-paced lifestyle of the island is custom-made for relaxation. Accordingly, we've adjusted to our surroundings without too much trauma.  Other than eating, swimming and snorkeling off of the pristine white sand beaches, we've done a lot of meticulous testing of the villa's lounge beds and hammocks. We've also made a daily ritual of night swims under the star-filled skies.

The villa's accomplished cook has offered up a panoply of superb Creole dishes. One of them was a bit unusual: fruit bat. (John gamely swallowed one bite and called it a day... I actually enjoyed mine, and the cook has promised to prepare it again for me for my last dinner here.
 
As we approach our departure date we realize that this paradise found will soon become paradise memories.   Now we're wondering how we'll be able to tear ourselves away this idyllic life.  The answer seems clear: we'll have to plan a trip somewhere else that's equally incredible.
