Paris

It's been magnificently sunny and warm here in Paris, even hitting the 70s - unbelievable weather considering it's almost November.

We've indulged in far too much good food - and loved every minute... Last night, Doug's parents treated us to dinner at Mollard, a fabulous brasserie which has served hungry Parisians incredible plateaux de fruits de mer since the mid-nineteenth century. Our platter arrived bearing lobster, oysters, mussels, crab, cockles, clams, langoustines and shrimp piled more than a foot high on a bed of shaved ice.

Today, we walked around the 7th Arrondisement (avenue Suffren), where Doug partially grew up (or, more accurately, was raised, as Doug's ever having grown up is open to debate). Of course, this trip down memory lane involved sampling a couple of chocolate eclairs from the pastry shop adjacent to his old apartment building.

Tomorrow we're headed out to the gently rolling hills of Normandy.  We plan to visit the historic Landing beaches of Omaha, Juno, Utah and Sword; the famous Tapestry in Bayeux; and Fecamp, site of the monastery where Benedictine is made. We'll then continue up the coast to Bruges, Belgium for some moules aux frites before heading to Amsterdam and then home.
